Volkswagen has released a rendering of an ID. Buzz pickup to celebrate World Design Day. "On the way from an idea to production, there are a lot of unseen design drafts made, like this one," the company said in a statement.
The truck is built on the 2017 ID. Buzz concept and has a distinctive rear end with an open bed. The truck also features shorter rear doors, and plastic body cladding, among other changes. There are also aerodynamically tuned wheels and a two-tone top.
The truck's engine is likely to be shared with the ID Buzz, which has an 82-kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a rear-mounted electric engine that produces 201 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque.
More battery models with varying power output levels are scheduled to come in 2023, according to Volkswagen.
Even though the ID. Buzz truck is a fantasy, Volkswagen Group of America CEO Scott Keogh recently revealed the business is actively exploring the idea of developing an electric pickup.
