With confirmation that the initial body assembling is completed, Turkey's first homegrown vehicle is drawing closer to production. The car is made by Turkey's Automotive Joint Venture Group (TOGG), and pics posted on Twitter show the entire body. TOGG's production plant is scheduled to open in early 2022 in the Gemlik region of northwestern Bursa county.
TOGG was established in mid-2018, and prototypes of its first two models were displayed at a special event in late 2019. The one is a compact sedan, and the other is a C-segment SUV, and both have all-electric powertrains.
The SUV will go into production next year, with the sedan following shortly after. TOGG is also working on three other vehicles that will be available by 2030. According to Daily Sabah, 75% of TOGG's suppliers are based in Turkey, with the remaining 25% coming from Europe and Asia.
The SUV and sedan come standard with a single electric motor in the back that produces 200 hp. Customers who want additional power can order a version with a second electric motor at the front axle, bringing the total hp to 400. Flagship models will also include a larger battery pack with a range of more than 310 miles (500 km) and the ability to restore to 80% in less than 30 min.
