The Electric ’67 Mustang Is Back: Charge Cars Resurfaces At Silverstone
by AutoExpert | 20 January, 2025
Charge Cars is back after a wild few years. The company first showed off its electric Ford Mustang in 2018, promising a launch the following year. That didn’t happen. In 2022, they returned with plans to build 499 units at £350,000 ($428,400 / €415,830) each.
But things fell apart last summer when Charge went into administration. Now, thanks to private investors, the brand has been revived.
Their new home is at Silverstone, where they’re putting the finishing touches on the ’67 electric Mustang. This isn’t just a rehash—it’s a fresh take with a body officially licensed by Ford, built on a completely new platform. Underneath, it packs a quad-motor all-wheel-drive system making 536 hp (400 kW / 544 PS) and a jaw-dropping 1,121 lb-ft (1,520 Nm) of torque. Earlier plans hinted at using Arrival’s components, but it’s unclear if that’s still the case since those assets were up for sale last year.
What’s in store for the ’67? Carbon fiber parts, torque vectoring for sharp handling, and a bespoke suspension are on the list. Inside, there’s talk of modern touches like a custom infotainment setup, premium audio, and safety tech.
CEO Paul Abercrombie sounded optimistic: "On behalf of the consortium, I am delighted to announce the acquisition of Charge Cars. The ’67 establishes a new class of EV—and we will now accelerate final development at our new global HQ in Silverstone, UK, rapidly delivering this exciting luxury vehicle to customers. The Charge brand has huge global potential, and we look forward to revealing more details very soon."
For now, it’s a waiting game to see if Charge Cars can deliver on the hype. But one thing’s clear—the ’67 Mustang has the makings of something special.
