The Future is today with Mercedes new IAA - Shape shifting aerodynamic concept !
by AllAutoExperts | 15 September, 2015
This sleek new concept from Mercedes features active aerodynamics that actually changes the shape of the car body as speed increases!
Mercedes says the IAA is "an aerodynamic world record holder with a Cd figure of 0.19", partly thanks to an extendable body that automatically switches from 'Design mode' into 'Aerodynamic mode' upwards of 80 km/h (50mph).
With the body in multiple independent segments, eight of them extend at the rear, increasing the length of the car by up to 15.4 inches, and flaps in the front bumper move forward by approximately one inch which improves the airflow around the front of the car and the front wheel wells.
Also, the wheel rims alter their cupping and a louver in the front bumper moves 2.4 inches backward which refines the underbody airflow.
The interior of the future "carries forward the design lines of the S-Class and S-Class Coupe, offering new touch-based functionalities and a highly emotional digital operating experience"
