According to the information published by Automotive News, Tesla Motors will launch in 2016 an electrical sedan that will have a price close to the one of Nissan Leaf on the US market. The new model will have a useful autonomy of 320 km and will cost half of an S Model, which means that the future affordable model from Tesla will cost approximately 31.200 dollars. Tesla representatives will be able to sell their new affordable model in 2016 with the support of an advanced charging network, developed for the current S model. The Supercharger network from Tesla implies the setup of fast charging stations established at optimal ranges between them in order to ensure the autonomy increase of the S model and of the models that will follow it.
The future affordable model from Tesla will take over the frontal part from its range mates and aims a triple real autonomy compared to the one offered by Nissan Leaf. Until then, the Japanese could improve in their turn the autonomy of Leaf, however, Tesla could have a more competitive product both from the point of view of the technology they have and from the viewpoint of aesthetics and brand image.
Tesla Motors evolution in the last year could be noted in their stock as well, the TSLA index rising from 27.91 dollars in 2012 to 94.84 dollars in just a year, and last week it registered a value of over 110 dollars for a Tesla share. Tesla Motors paid off the whole loan received from the US department of Energy and still has liquidities of over 760 million dollars.
