Rivian R1T Navigates Through At Least 3 Feet Of Water With Ease
by AutoExpert | 1 September, 2021
Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe recently tweeted a photo showing the company's forthcoming flagship R1T truck traveling through a lazy river (like a pool of water), buried up near its bonnet. As the first Launch Edition approaches delivery in September, the firm and its CEO continue to promote the EV.
Rivian is an electric vehicle company funded by Amazon, for whom it has already begun to provide delivery vehicles. The firm is now just months away from launching its first two electric vehicles, the R1T truck and the R1S SUV.
The carmaker stated last week that it had registered for an $80 billion Initial Public Offering (IPO). Rivian has long been known for its ability to raise cash, having previously received over $10 billion in funding from firms such as Ford. Following earlier delays, the firm now expects to deliver its first passenger EV, the R1T, to consumers in September. Rivian has been extremely cautious about giving updates on manufacturing progress, as well as views of the EVs in operation. The US carmaker heads towards September and its anticipated first deliveries.
Scaringe's post appears to be from the automaker's testing center in Normal, Illinois, which is close to its lone production site. It's difficult to tell how deep the water is, but it's approximately the same depth as the R1T's headlights at its deepest. R1T is over 6 feet tall, meaning it's swimming through at least 3 feet of water, if not more, according to Rivian's specifications.
Rivian R1T Launch Edition trim will start shipping in September, backed by the Rivian R1S Launch Edition this fall. All of the bookings for these electric vehicles have already been filled. Early in 2022, two more trims of each EV will be available.
