The Porsche models Boxster and Cayman will receive a four-cylinder boxer engine with new generations. Matthias Muller, The Porsche's CEO, revealed this information in an interview with the German magazine Auto Motor and Sport.
The introduction of these engines in the Porsche range is designed to reduce the CO2 emissions level of the range. Although they aim to be more environmentally friendly, the new engines from Porsche will lack horsepower. Asked by the folks at Auto Motor and Sport about the power that the new engines will provide, Matthias Müller said the unit could provide up to 400 hp.
The future Porsche boxer engines will follow a modular strategy, in other words, the family of four-cylinder engines will take the technical components of larger engines. For now, the start date of the new four-cylinder boxer engine from the Porsche is not known, the expected new generation of the Boxster and Cayman's will be a few years to introduce the SRB range.
