New DeLorean Concept Cars Showcasing The Carmaker’s Evolution
by AutoExpert | 27 July, 2022
So we’ve just seen DeLorean Alpha 5 launched in May, with impressive electric powertrain performances and an autonomy of 300 miles. Hearing about the Alpha 5 being limited to 88 units only, makes you wonder if there’ll be any other new models from the carmaker.
Well, according to DeLorean CEO, Joost de Vries, new models are on the way along with some new concepts: Alpha 2, Alpha 3, and Alpha 4. The way of presenting the concepts is even more impressive than the concepts themselves – the DeLorean website visitors can access the “Our Journey”, where some sort of time travel takes place.
Let’s check out the concepts:
DeLorean Alpha2
The 1990 DeLorean Alpha 2 concept seems to inherit DMC-12’s design, with some noticeable C4 Corvette highlights. Having been presented in 1996, the concept runs on an internal combustion engine.
DeLorean Alpha3
According to DeLorean's imaginary timeline, being a futuristic sedan from the 2000s, it landed in 2006. Nevertheless, it doesn’t look at all like the sedans from that time. Also, its 2006 electric powertrain is way ahead of Tesla.
DeLorean Alpha4
Now here’s the DeLorean SUV we have all been waiting for! According to the carmaker’s timeline, its place fits in 2013, where Alpha4 is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, while all the other cars in the background are running on electricity. Looks pretty much like Fisker Ocean, doesn’t it?
DeLorean DMC-24
Now this is a concept car that is truly part of DeLorean’s authentic history. Having been created back in 1982, DMC-24 is an elegant 4-seat sedan that has even made it to the mock-up phase.
Now all these concepts look great but will any of them ever become a real production model? According to a DeLorean spokesperson, several cars will be presented at Pebble Beach and may be interpreted as real-time versions of the above concepts. The carmaker says it wants to become a full-range producer, so we’ll probably get to see more models soon.
