Hongqi Tiangong 05 EV Offers Futuristic Design And Impressive Range
by AutoExpert | 31 January, 2025
Hongqi's latest EV, the Tiangong 05, shakes up the brand’s typical luxury sedan vibe with a sexy compact design aimed at a broader market. It’s similar in size to the Hyundai Ioniq 6 but a tad larger than the Tesla Model 3. Sadly, it’s unlikely to hit showrooms outside Asia.
For starters, the exterior design of the Hongqi Tiangong 05 features sharp LED headlights and flush door handles for a modern, streamlined look. Of course, Hongqi keeps its iconic Red Flag emblem running down the hood. At the rear, curvy LED taillights complete the design.
Built on Hongqi’s new Tiangong platform, the 05 offers two battery options from CATL. While capacities haven’t been confirmed, the base model reportedly delivers 342 miles (550 km) on the CLTC cycle, while the top version pushes that up to 466 miles (750 km). A rear-mounted electric motor pumps out a healthy 281 hp (210 kW).
Spy shots have given a glimpse of the interior, revealing a massive central infotainment screen, a flat-bottomed two-spoke steering wheel, and a Tesla-style layout without a traditional gauge cluster. Instead, there's a whopping 65-inch head-up display. Other features include a 50-watt wireless charging pad and dual cupholders.
Pricing remains under wraps, but it’s safe to say the Tiangong 05 will be priced far more competitively in China than similar EVs in the U.S. Stay tuned for more details when it officially launches.
