Lotus Shakes Up EV Strategy With 900V Hyper Hybrid Technology

Lotus has just confirmed a major change in its Vision 80 electrification strategy, now adding a powerful 900V Hyper Hybrid EV system. This new direction aims to combine the best of electric vehicles with the kind of range and flexibility traditionally seen in gas-powered cars.
Speaking during their latest earnings call, Lotus CEO Feng Qingfeng explained that these upcoming hybrids will be much more than just range-extended EVs. The big difference is that these cars will be able to rely entirely on the gasoline engine when necessary—like on highways where an engine is more efficient at high speeds.
But what's even more exciting is that these hybrids will still deliver that signature Lotus performance, no matter which powertrain is at work. One of the standout features is their dual hyper-charging system, which allows for ultra-fast charging both when plugged in and while the car is driving. The gasoline engine doubles as a generator, recharging the battery at a rate five times higher than normal driving needs.
This means the Lotus Hyper Hybrid can keep up its electric performance, even during heavy acceleration or in extreme cold weather. Thanks to this blend of electric and gasoline power, Lotus says their Hyper Hybrid cars will offer a range of over 684 miles, a huge leap from the Eletre’s range of 254–373 miles. And when it comes to recharging, the system can go from 10% to 80% in just 10 minutes with an ultra-fast charger.
