Honda’s One-of-a-Kind Civic In Blinding Silver Shines In Style
by AutoExpert | 31 October, 2024
Have you ever heard about the “silveriest” silver? If not, meet Honda’s latest showstopper—a unique Civic e:HEV glowing in silver paint.
This metallic finish, bursting with actual silver flakes, is a dazzling marvel. The creator of this brilliant shade is Stuart Semple, a British artist and outspoken color enthusiast.
Known for introducing the world to hues like the Pinkest Pink and Goldest Gold, Semple’s name carries a touch of color legend. Although his attempt to develop the Blackest Black stirred up some legal drama with Vantablack's creator, Anish Kapoor, Semple didn’t let it dim his ambitions. For Honda’s silvery Civic, Semple dialed up the shine, using a paint mixture that’s 64% silver flakes, suspended in a unique acrylic blend.
UK-based The Syrup Room took the reins on applying this standout paint. They meticulously layered it over multiple protective coats, ensuring the silver gleam wasn’t just eye-catching but sturdy too. According to Honda, this is the first time such a paint formula has been applied to a car, making it a landmark for their 25 years in the hybrid game since the Insight’s debut in 1999.
Today’s Civic e:HEV, now in its 11th generation, joined the lineup in 2022 and has had some recent updates to the Japanese-spec model. Its hybrid setup combines a 2.0-liter engine, electric motors, and a lithium-ion battery. The Civic is in good company with Honda’s European hybrid family, including the Jazz, HR-V, ZR-V, and CR-V. And soon, a revived Prelude coupe with hybrid power will join the mix, pushing Honda’s hybrid journey even further.
