Farewell To The Turbo Era: Donkervoort Unveils The F22 Final Five
by AutoExpert | 19 November, 2024
Donkervoort has unveiled the Final Five, the ultimate version of its F22 sports car. This special edition marks a farewell to the iconic 2.5-liter turbocharged engines that have powered the brand's cars for 25 years. Only five of these speed demons will ever exist.
The Final Five sticks to the F22’s recipe of raw, unfiltered performance, boasting 492 hp. While modern electric hypercars may dwarf that figure on paper, Donkervoort’s ace is its astonishingly low weight. At just 1,578 lbs (716 kg)—75 lbs (34 kg) lighter than the standard F22—it achieves a blistering power-to-weight ratio of 698 hp per tonne.
This weight loss is thanks to an all-new carbon fiber body, setting the stage for what is essentially a rolling exercise in lightweight engineering. The upgrades don’t stop there. Carbon ceramic brakes shave 5.5 lbs (2.5 kg) from each corner, while standard carbon fiber wheels and a titanium exhaust system cut another 8.9 lbs (4 kg). Paired with a five-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive via a Torsen limited-slip differential, the F22 Final Five rockets to 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds and can hit a top speed of 180 mph.
But this isn’t just a straight-line monster. Thanks to its electronically adjustable TracTive shocks, double wishbone suspension, and sticky Nankang AR1 tires, it can pull a face-melting 2.3G in corners. Buyers could tailor their cars with options like a lift system, upgraded air conditioning, heated seats, carbon fiber Recaro buckets, a bespoke interior, and even front and rear cameras.
Not that the price deterred anyone—all five units of the Donkervoort F22, priced at €315,000 (about $332,000), sold out quickly.
