GAC ERA Concept Is A Visionary Full-Size SUV With Hydrogen Power
by AutoExpert | 22 November, 2023
The well-known Chinese carmaker, GAC, is always pushing the envelope of innovation. At the Guangzhou Auto Show in 2023, they debuted the eye-catching GAC ERA concept, a full-size SUV that vividly depicts the company's future goals.
At 5,413 mm in length and 3,132 mm in wheelbase, this concept automobile surpasses the proportions of a Cadillac Escalade in sleek and massive SUV fashion. GAC's design teams in Milan and Los Angeles worked together to create the ERA, which is captivating with its simple lines that combine a strong front end with an aerodynamic roofline that swoops gently down to a fastback-style tail.
The full-width LED strip that seamlessly integrates headlights, sensors, and cameras adorns the front. The SUV's aerodynamically sculpted side skirts and suicide doors provide a noticeable visual element, and its large-diameter alloy wheels help it achieve an amazing ground clearance of 244 mm. GAC highlights sustainability by showing that environmentally friendly resources, including seaweed bio-based materials and recycled plastic from the marine industry, are used to make the aero components.
When you step inside the GAC ERA, the interior becomes a true living room, with the goal of reinventing the driving experience. The middle console easily transforms into a table, and the front chairs are made to rotate. What's more, the back chairs include extendable sections that may double as foot rests or extra seating. A tea table may be unfolded from the middle armrest, creating a dynamic and adaptable cabin atmosphere.
The interior design features an opulent blend of suede-like surfaces, white wood-style roughness, and upholstery made of bio-based mycelium leather in sunset purple. With its large display, smaller screen nearer the driver, and touch-sensitive buttons on the door cards and steering wheel, the dashboard commands attention.
Using hydrogen fuel cell (FCEV) technology, the GAC ERA deviates from the traditional battery-electric method. With two powerful 540-horsepower electric motors positioned at the back, the SUV can travel 800 kilometers without emitting any emissions. Its rapid refueling using a hydrogen pump as opposed to an electric charger is what makes it unique and demonstrates a pragmatic approach to sustainable transportation.
Although it is unlikely to become a production model right away, the ERA concept is a daring demonstration of GAC's technical expertise and provides an early look at elements that may influence the company's future offerings.
