Dongfeng Announces New Mengshi Brand With Two Electric Vehicle Concepts
by AutoExpert | 1 September, 2022
Dongfeng Motors is launching Mengshi as a new brand, with two off-road-focused electric vehicle models and a 2023 manufacturing target. The M logo stands for Military, Man, Marvelous, Mission, and Mengshi. M-Terrain, a sizable five-door SUV, and M-Terrain Sport, a two-door pickup, are the names of the tough-looking concepts.
In common are their Hummer-like dimensions, off-road bumpers, angular surfaces, protruding fenders, and stylish LED lighting. The inside boasts a digital instrument cluster, a big infotainment touchscreen, a screen built into the steering wheel, and orange-upholstered seats.
The Mengshi concepts are built on a brand-new skateboard platform dubbed MORA that works with both range-extended (EREV) and fully electric (BEV) drivetrains. According to the company, the quad electric motors' total output will be above 1,000 horsepower and 11,801 lb-ft of torque, enabling a 0-62 mph time of 4.2 seconds.
The M-ATS system (which consists of a two-speed transmission and three electronic differential locks) will transfer power to all four wheels. In addition, the vehicles will support Level 3 autonomous driving. Mengshi withheld information about the floor-mounted battery's specifications. However, documents that have emerged indicate that it will have a 140 kWh capacity and provide a 311-mile range in the completely electric variant.
The Mengshi M-Terrain is nearing production, and the company aims to enter the Chinese market in 2023. The model's future availability in international markets is unclear.
