Dodge Keeps The Durango Roaring: Hemi SUVs Live To Fight Another Year
by AutoExpert | 20 December, 2024
Dodge isn’t done with the Durango R/T and SRT Hellcat just yet. Originally set to bow out by the end of 2024, these Hemi-powered SUVs will stick around into 2025. Dodge says this decision comes down to “market demand and customer feedback,” though they haven’t shared many details. It also comes after Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares, who reportedly pushed for phasing out the Hemi, left his position.
Dodge CEO Matt McAlear avoided commenting on the controversy but praised the Durango and Hemi pairing. “It’s the perfect way to celebrate 20 years of Hemi-powered Durangos,” he said, adding that they’ll continue producing “the most powerful gas engine SUV on the planet.”
Still, it’s not all good news. The 6.4-liter V8 with 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque from the Durango 392 has officially disappeared for 2025. Now, the lineup offers a 3.6-liter V6, a 5.7-liter V8 with 360 hp, or the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 in the Hellcat that cranks out an insane 710 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque.
Prices for the 2025 Durango start at $41,995. The R/T comes in at $54,495, while the Hellcat’s special editions begin at $113,720. Dodge’s decision to keep the Durango alive means fans of these muscular SUVs can enjoy their powerful performance for a little longer.
