Audi five-cylinder engine will be upgraded to keep up with competition

That update aims to respond to the new AMG engines with four cylinders in line. Ingolstadt has two important reasons for this update: compulsory introduction of Euro 6 from September 2014 and that fact that the new four-cylinder engine from AMG develops 350 hp. Currently, the most powerful five-cylinder engine from Audi develops 340 hp, ten less than the one on Mercedes-Benz AMG.
"Five-cylinder engine in line will have a future with us. But the values we see from AMG are enormous for a four-cylinder 2.0-liter", Said Stephan Reil, head of quattro division from Audi, responsible for developing this engine. He specified that the current engine is not Euro 6-compliant, thus some technical modifications being required.
