All-Electric Bugatti Baby II Pays Tribute To The Company's Racing History

In 2019, Bugatti's Baby II electric vehicle made a tiny but noteworthy impact. The company is now returning to its origins to maintain its dedication to the little Bugatti model. The genuine Bugatti Baby II raced in the GP Ice Race in Austria 60 years ago, and the Baby II EV decided to return as its safety vehicle over the Jan. 28–30 weekend.

The Baby II EV is built by the Little Car Company, not Bugatti, and is restricted to only 500 units worldwide. The 75% scale, fully electric vehicle was developed in collaboration between the two businesses and has a peak speed of 42 mph (68 km/h), making it a great safety car during the GP Ice Race.

The original Bugatti Type 35, on which Bugatti Baby II is based, began the 1960 event accompanied by two motorbikes and a low-flying jet. There were no spectators at this year's event in Zell am See, Austria, called ICEolated, because of the pandemic, but the automotive hardware nevertheless showed up.

Bugatti Baby II EV was accompanied on the track by a legendary Type 51, which had previously raced here in 1960. Fortunately, the Baby II didn't have to deal with any major accidents. The "Ice Spec" package includes studded tires, safety car-style hazard lights, and a limited-slip differential. As seen at the event, even the most powerful vehicles may benefit greatly from these tweaks in terms of traction.

A Ferrari Testarossa, a Lamborghini Huracan EVO, and the wild Aston Martin Bulldog were among the high-performance vehicles that turned out to stomp some snow. The Audi RSQ e-Tron from the Dakar Rally, Ken Block's S1 Hoonitron, and Max Verstappen, who turned there and ran some laps in his Red Bull F1 car, may have overshadowed those automobiles.
