A police checkpoint at Giurgiulesti-Reni at the Moldovan/Ukrainian border discovered a car of BMW 320D, which was shown in the Interpol database as stolen.
The detention took place on 21 July during border checks carried out at the entry into Moldova from Ukraine. The driver was a citizen of Ukraine, aged 43 years. Following database checks, border guards found that the car was subject to an Interpol alert initiated by Russian authorities in February 2009.
The driver said he is not aware of the issue, telling border guards that he bought through intermediaries. The car was held at the crossing point pending inquiries.
We remind that this is not the only case of stolen cars attempting border crossings that are registered in Ukraine.
