WAVE Concept – Directly From Walmart

With the number of heavy trucks constantly increasing, it was perfectly normal for the sustainable development requirements to affect these vehicles, as well, and improve their efficiency.
Walmart decided to make an entrance into the world of heavy trucks with the brand new WAVE concept, something that the USA hasn't yet seen. The aerodynamic design focuses on the middle position of the driver, unlike the standard left side.
The control of the truck is made through LCD screens placed around the steering wheel. The driver's comfort has also been increased, by placing a sleeping compartment right in the back of the driver's pod.
The technical details have been affected by the green current, so the propulsion system is electrical, of course. WAVE uses a Capstone micro-turbine, teamed up with an electric engine.
The trailer of the WAVE concept is made out of carbon fiber, which contributes to the truck's light-weightiness. According to Walmart, this is the very first carbon fiber trailer ever, being with approximately 4000 pounds lighter than any other ordinary truck.
Talking about the trailer, it continues the aerodynamic design of the truck, by diminishing the wind resistance and also adding up some extra space for the load.
Although it sounds good on paper, there are no plans announced for WAVE to go into production. We would certainly like that since it is very eco-friendly.
EPA has received instructions from President Obama to come up with a new set of fuel consumption economy for the medium and long trucks, which is supposed to take effect somewhere around 2019.
