VW in “HOT WATER” in the U.S. over rigged emission tests! by AllAutoExperts | 17 April, 2020 Share : Michael Horn, the boss of VW's U.S. business unit admitted the firm was dishonest in using software to rig emission tests. His words: "We have totally screwed up"Last Friday, U.S. regulators revealed that VW diesel cars being sold in the U.S. have much higher emissions than the tests had shown. The issues apparently may not affect European production, as tests in the EU are done using different standards than in the U.S.Shares in VW dropped almost 20% on Monday after VW was ordered on Friday to recall half a million cars because the EPA discovered that software in several diesel models was capable of deceiving regulators. This situation may not only result in fines in the Billions of dollars for VW but also could put VW execs at risk of criminal prosecution. The White House also commented regarding the situation, stating that it was "quite concerned about VW's conduct".This situation, along with the recent revelation that diesel fumes represent a substantially greater health hazard than previously thought could further dampen U.S. sales of diesel automobiles which currently represent only about 3% of car sales.
