Urban eVTOL Leo Coupe Seems To Be An Automobile With Wings
by AutoExpert | 21 March, 2022
The Leo, a new concept by Urban eVTOL, aspires to be an automobile. Its dimensions are 20 by 10 feet, making it suitable for most two-car garages. It also boasts an automotive-style cabin and a semi-autonomous fly-by-wire control system that is simple to operate.
There is a slew of other advancements as well. Electric Jet Aircraft's co-founder Pete Bitar designed a one-of-a-kind electric jetpack for propulsion. Five clusters of electrically driven jet turbines are used in the technology. The first four clusters give support, while the fifth propels the vehicle ahead.
Every cluster works together to simulate a single rotor, but the many jets in each cluster offer stability and protection. The rotors of the turbines are enclosed within the craft's structure, which adds to its safety. In tethered test flight, the system operated well, and Urban Evtol estimates a max speed of 250 mph with 1 hour of flying time.
The eVTOL Leo Coupe is a stunning piece of art in its own right. The inside accommodates three people, but the $300,000 price tag is what really gets our attention. Experimental approval will be granted in 2023, with a full commercial launch scheduled for 2026.
