If you're into something with more character—and a retro twist—check out the Type-Ami. Italian coachbuilder Caselani teamed up with Citroen’s Style Center to turn the quirky little EV into something that looks straight out of a post-war French postcard.
The design comes from David Obendorfer, a guy with a real knack for giving modern cars that classic vibe. This time, he drew inspiration from the legendary Citroen Type H, a utility van that was a staple in France from the '40s to the early '80s.
The transformation is all about those iconic corrugated body panels made from fiberglass. The kit comes with everything you need—brackets, screws, the works—while keeping the original lights, doors, and windows intact. There are nine color options, but if you're picky, Caselani will hook you up with custom paint too.
Funny thing is, this was originally just a one-off project for Fabrizio Caselani, the company’s founder. But after showing it off at the 24-hour Citroen 2CV race in Spa-Francorchamps, they figured, "Why not make this a thing?" With a few tweaks from Citroen’s design team, it even got the official green light from the brand.
Mechanically, it’s still the same Ami you know—an 8-horsepower electric motor and a 5.5-kWh battery, maxing out at a casual 28 mph. In Europe, even 14-year-olds can get behind the wheel.
The Type-Ami makes its grand debut at the Retromobile show in Paris on February 5. Pre-orders are open now, starting at €13,000 ($13,400). Already got an Ami? The conversion kit is around €5,000 ($5,200). Time to give your ride some vintage swagger!
