Texas police now have a powerful new tool to catch criminals: a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. But this is not a typical Hellcat. The base Challenger SRT Hellcat comes from the factory with a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine producing 707 horsepower.
The Southeast Texas Region of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has disclosed that this Hellcat has been updated to 1,080 horsepower and was confiscated before being given to the agency by a judge.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the 2020 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye was confiscated by authorities in April 2021 after the driver participated in risky street racing and ran from law enforcement agents at speeds of 160 mph.
Black Diamond Customs gave the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat a wrap in black and white, making it seem like a genuine police vehicle. While details on the Challenger's engine enhancements remain unknown, we can safely assume that an increased supercharger and other internal tweaks contributed to the vehicle's improved performance.
