The New World Record Set By Toyota Mirai Makes EVs Look Boring
by AutoExpert | 11 October, 2021
We need electric vehicles in our life, thus most automakers are working on that. Toyota, which pioneered hybrids with the Prius, is now pursuing two paths to a cleaner electric future: electricity and hydrogen.
The stylish 2021 Toyota Mirai has just set a new Guinness World Record by going 845 miles on a single tank of hydrogen. A 5-minute fillup gave the Toyota Mirai a range that is significantly greater than most regular gasoline automobiles.
The Mirai returned 152 mpge on the journey, which took place on August 23 and 24. Michael Empric, who shut the Mirai's tank at the start of the journey, was the one who confirmed it. The trip began at the Toyota Technical Center in Gardena, California, and was driven by "professional hypermilers" Wayne Gerdes and Bob Winger.
Along the gorgeous Pacific Coast Highway, the highways carried them to San Ysidro, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica, and Malibu. After logging 473 miles, they went home. The next day, they awoke to rush-hour traffic through San Diego, Los Angeles, and Orange County, arriving at TTC with a total of 845 miles traveled.
