Skoda Electric Rally Car Is Here And It’s Crazy
by AutoExpert | 2 July, 2021
120 years in motorsport is no joke, and Skoda is celebrating that by launching a new crazy electric rally car with 349 hp onboard.
Dubbed Skoda RE-X1 Kreisel, the rally car is based on Skoda Fabia Rally2 evo, coming as the result of Skoda Motorsport joining forces with Kreisel Electric, Baumschlager Rallye & Racing, and Skoda Austria.
Skoda Fabia Rally2 evo got upgraded so that it can host a Kreisel electric powertrain: a 52.5 kWh battery pack and an electric motor delivering 349 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. These figures are higher than a regular rally car’s running on a 1.6-liter turbo engine with 287 hp and 313 lb-ft of torque.
Hosting the powertrain required some changes, these affecting the bodyshell floor for installing the battery pack. The suspension is a newly revised one, coming with a 200-kW charging station for rallies.
The concept car has already been homologated by the Austrian Motorsport Federation AMF (OAMTC), which allows it to take part in the Austria Rally Championship in a couple of months.
This should come as an interesting blend of design, power, and technology, so let’s watch for it on the track.
