Novus One Electric Motorbike Is Now Available For Pre-Order

The One e-bike prototype developed by German startup Novus was revealed at CES 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Now that the Brunswick-based brand has had some time to plan, they are all working hard to make the company's popular lightweight commuter for the public. Pre-orders are now available for the Novus One, which is anticipated to arrive in the middle of 2022.

The future electric motorcycle is built with a carbon-fiber monocoque frame, swingarm, 18-inch wheels, and an adjustable telescopic fork, and it weighs only 165 lbs.

Although its overall size is modest, the One can handle payloads of up to 240 lbs. Not to be outdone, the Novus offers the same 18 kW (24 horsepower) engine at its heart. One is capable of 75 mph thanks to the mill's 148 ft-lb of torque paired with a 4.3 kWh lithium-ion battery.

Many urban residents might find the short range of an electric motorbike to be disappointing, but Novus claims that the bike can be fully recharged in 30 minutes, which keeps city residents on the road for much of the day. Due to the similarities in the suspension and braking systems, many European countries consider the Novus One an electric motorcycle, not an electric bicycle.

Like a mountain bike, the fork springs are located in the steering tube. With the front-end travel (3.5 inches) and rear-shock travel (4.3 inches), the rear end is significantly more expansive. A 230mm front brake disc is mated to a two-piston caliper while the hub-mounted engine does the braking in the rear. Equally impressive is the sophisticated electronics package which includes the ability to be unlocked with a simple swipe of a finger and three riding modes (a boost, normal, and Eco mode).

The Nous app is particularly helpful in that it enables users to monitor and make adjustments to settings on the fly. One's visibility is greatly improved, as well as the ability to upgrade the operating system remotely, because of all-around LED lighting. Innovation always comes at a cost. The Novus One doesn't offer the lowest cost method of public transit, as it costs €46,284 (≈$55,000). Customers who are interested in buying the Novus One can pre-order for €1,000 (≈$1,200) and shipping are expected to begin in the middle of 2022.
