No Compact Pickup Model For VW
by AutoExpert | 21 June, 2021
Despite the world expecting a rival model from VW that would compete with Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz, it seems that this isn’t going to happen. At least this is what North America VW executive vice president, Duncas Movassaghi, has stated.
During an interview for Auto News, Movassaghi has admitted that there are no plans for a new ICE pickup truck. The company is currently focusing on electrification and keeping the competitive advantage of the internal combustion engine current lineup. The matter might become actual once the existing models are transformed into BEV.
On the other hand, Michelle Krebs, executive analyst at Autotrader, states that an electric pickup is a good option for VW, especially since it’s still recovering from Dieselgate. Surveys show the growing interest in electric pickups, so VW should consider it, at least.
