Mugen Introduces Performance-Boosting Upgrades For Honda Civic Type R
by AutoExpert | 10 May, 2024
When it comes to the Honda Civic Type R, Japanese tuner Mugen has shown a slew of aerodynamic modifications. A reworked rear wing is the most noticeable modification to the powerful hot hatch. Featuring carbon fiber endplates and adjustable by hand, this wing is scheduled to be released in late September and is priced at 308,000 yen (~$1,980).
Interested buyers will have to shell out 110,000 yen (~$710) for the wing and a new front chin spoiler painted Berlina Black, or 99,000 yen (~$640) for the unpainted version.
To achieve the best possible downforce balance, Mugen suggests fitting both the front chin spoiler and the rear wing. The Civic Type R also includes unique rear side splitters, available for separate purchase, in addition to the standard diffuser. If left unpainted, these splitters cost about $515, whereas painted, they cost around 99,000 yen (~$640).
The front bumper garnishes cost about $700 (or around $500). Experts claim that the aerodynamic modifications enhance downforce by 25%. New race nuts and lock nuts are available as options for the car's 19-inch forged aluminum wheels, which are lighter than the stock wheels. We created these wheels in collaboration with BBS, and each one costs about $1,100.
Even the Honda Civic Type R's inside might have some unique customization options. Take, for example, the new Alcantara shift knob, which retails for about $142, and the carbon fiber center console, which can be yours for 71,500 yen (~$460). In addition to the top-notch seats that come standard on Honda's hot hatch, Mugen is now selling new Recaro bucket seats for 297,000 yen (~$1,900) per set. A redesigned carbon fiber steering wheel, unique LED taillights, and a single exhaust system are all on the way.
