Morgan Plus 8 GTR Is The Company's Most Powerful Vehicle To Date
by AutoExpert | 9 December, 2021
Morgan has finally revealed the Plus 8 GTR, following the release of a teaser drawing in February. This is the first of only 9 cars to be produced, and it's decked out in Yas Marina Blue paint. Morgan Plus 8 GTR sports vehicle is powered by BMW's N62 engine, a naturally aspirated V8 that was discontinued from the German luxury brand's range many years ago.
It's the N62B48 engine, which you may recognize from the X5 4.8i / 4.8iS from the SUV's 2nd gen, the E70, with a 4.8-liter capacity. Now, it produces 375 hp, which is a 20-hp increase over the X5 4.8iS. It's also way stronger than the 362 hp configuration found in the 550i/650i/750i versions from the mid-2000s.
Morgan created the car after discovering a few leftover rolling chassis a few years ago, and the stunning finish is a tribute to the Plus 8 "Big Blue" race car from the 1990s. A few more Morgan Plus 8 GTR cars will be delivered before the end of the month, with the remaining ones arriving in the first quarter of the following year.
Each buyer, according to Morgan, would have the opportunity to collaborate with the company's design staff to develop a completely personalized vehicle. 5 of the 9 Morgan Plus 8 GTR cars were sold to foreign markets, with the other 4 remaining in the United Kingdom. Customers may choose between a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, as well as left- or right-hand drive.
When compared to the original Plus 8, the updated engine tune and cannon-like twin exhausts have increased not just power but also throttle responsiveness. The center lock wheels have a five-spoke design reminiscent of the Plus 8 racing cars from the 1990s, and the prominent shoulder line is back after years.
