The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) has named Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz, as its president, marking a significant change in the organization's leadership. After Luca de Meo steps down as CEO of the Renault Group, Källenius will formally assume the position on January 1, 2025.
The president of the ACEA serves a one-year term, with the option of serving an additional year if necessary. The association's goal, under Källenius's leadership, is to strengthen regulatory legislation that helps the car industry switch to electric vehicles.
During the announcement, Källenius stated, "The European automotive industry has all the resources to work together and achieve its goals in this electric age."
Along with the appointment of a new president, ACEA also announced the Stellantis Group's return to the organization. Two years ago, the company decided it was unhappy with the EU's decision to limit the sale of new automobiles with internal combustion engines after 2035, so it quit the association.
