Meet The Bugatti Divo In Red And Graphite Diamonds

Even being the most popular brand in the car industry, or launching the most extravagant car concept, doesn’t mean that there won’t be a client who’d like to exclusively paint a car for their collection. The exact situation happened with Bugatti’s team in 2018, after launching the Bugatti Divo at Pebble Beach.
The team’s task was to build an exclusive Divo with a specific paint job for his personal collection. Easy to say than to make it. It took almost two years to finish the project, because the strict geometric pattern demanded, also had diamond shapes in unique metallic color contrast.
The pattern was later dubbed as ‘Customer Special Red’ and ‘Graphite’ designed to run precisely starting from the front to rear, to match the entire hypercar’s silhouette. As easy as it might seem, the team worked up to two years to implement the idea. They used the CAD data, countless simulations, and a test vehicle to see alignment from all points of view in real 3D dimensions.
Almost 1,600 diamonds were applied to the customer car and the project was a real strength and perseverance test for the team. Applying a 2D-shaped diamond sticker to a 3D-shaped car’s exterior turned out a nightmare of failings for Jorg Grumer’s Color &Trim team. A true example of making the impossible possible.
During the final testing, employees had to check every diamond for several days to prevent alignment imperfections. After the hardest part was successfully finished, the team could sand, smooth another checking of course, and then retouched and re-sanded once again.
Although they almost gave up the tremendous challenge, with such a stunning result, they might hire the customer as a consultant, right?
