Gas-Powered Mini Version Of The Toyota Land Cruiser Is On The Way
by AutoExpert | 28 September, 2023
Exciting news from Toyota's corner! The Compact Cruiser EV concept that wowed us in 2021 served as inspiration for the automaker's new compact off-roader, a little brother of the powerful Land Cruiser.
According to reports, this Land Cruiser Mini won't just dabble in electric dreams. It's gearing up to hit the scene with traditional gasoline or diesel engines, a departure from the concept's EV roots. This decision aims to simplify maintenance, especially in emerging markets.
But there's a twist; some speculate it might get the powerplant from the RAV4 or Corolla Cross, possibly electrified. However, another tale from Mag-X suggests the Mini might flex a muscular 2.8-liter diesel engine, known from the Prado and Hilux, with potential hybrid configurations in specific markets. There's even chatter about a naturally aspirated 2.7-liter engine.
Intriguingly, Toyota seems to have an electric trick up its sleeve, starting with the Tacoma and eventually gifting the Mini with an electric spirit. As for its looks, expect a design reminiscent of the Compact Cruiser EV concept but scaled down. It'll be compact but bold, featuring circular headlights and a dash of retro charm with a spare wheel cover.
This Land Cruiser Mini is rumored to be crafted in Southeast Asian territories, primarily Thailand, with a possible debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2023. While it's uncertain if it will venture beyond those lands, the prospect is certainly enticing. Stay tuned for more!
