Tesla, known for its minimalist approach towards vehicle updates and color options, has launched a vehicle wrap service for its Model 3 and Model Y customers. This move comes as a response to the popular trend among Tesla owners of getting their vehicles wrapped for a more personalized look. With prices ranging between $7,500 to $8,000 based on color choice, Tesla aims to provide a broader spectrum of color options.

Previously, only five paint colors were available for these models in the U.S., namely Midnight Silver Metallic, Pearl White, Deep Blue Metallic, Solid Black, and Red. However, with this new service, an additional seven colors have been introduced, expanding the palette.

These new colors are split into two price groups. The more economical group priced at $7,500 includes Slip Grey, Satin Ceramic White, and Satin Stealth Black. For a premium price of $8,000, customers can opt for more adventurous colors like Glacier Blue, Forest Green, Satin Rose Gold, and Crimson Red.

The wraps are made from a self-healing urethane-based film, aimed not only at enhancing the vehicle’s aesthetic appeal but also at providing a protective layer to the underlying paint, safeguarding it from common exterior damages such as chips, scratches, and swirls. The cost of this service also covers the installation.

Tesla

Currently, this service is only available at two Tesla Service Centers located in West Covina and Carlsbad, California, as it appears to be a pilot project for now. The article also mentions that compared to independent shops like Vinyl Ink in Fremont, California, Tesla's wrapping service is on the pricier side. For instance, Vinyl Ink estimates the cost of wrapping a car to be between $2,000 to $7,000, which can go up to $9,000+ for specialty wraps like gold chrome. The article also notes that vehicle wraps, while a popular choice for customization, are a temporary solution as they normally don't last longer than seven years.

Tesla

This new venture by Tesla reflects its intention to capitalize on the existing market trend of vehicle customization, albeit at a premium price, while also adding a layer of protection to the vehicle's exterior.
