Celebrating 60 Years Of Racing Success, McLaren Releases New MCL60 Formula One Car
by AutoExpert | 14 February, 2023
McLaren has unveiled its new Formula 1 car, the MCL60, for the 2023 season. This name is different from their previous naming conventions as it represents the 60th anniversary of the company's founding by Bruce McLaren, who passed away in 1970.
The change in aerodynamic regulations during the 2022 season did not favor McLaren, resulting in the team dropping from third to fifth place in the Constructors' standings. Overall, McLaren is the second most successful Formula 1 team after Ferrari.
In the 2023 season, the team aims to improve on its performance from the previous year. Their driver lineup includes Lando Norris and rookie Oscar Piastri, who replaces Daniel Ricciardo. The team will use a Mercedes engine to power the MCL60, and this partnership is expected to continue for some years.
For the 2023 season, McLaren's livery will incorporate their signature papaya orange color, which has been a part of the company's identity since its inception. The livery will also feature blue highlights, reminiscent of the brand's racing history in the 1960s.
McLaren's CEO, Zak Brown, is enthusiastic about the upcoming season, especially with the team's young drivers. He expressed his delight at launching the 2023 Formula 1 team with Lando and Oscar as their drivers, and he emphasized the significance of celebrating 60 years of McLaren Racing. Brown referred to Lando as an intelligent and confident driver with great speed and praised Oscar as one of the most promising talents in motorsport.
