Bugatti Bolide: Unleashing Unprecedented Braking Fury with F1-Grade Technology
by AutoExpert | 26 February, 2024
We all know Bugatti loves to play with big numbers – that giant engine, ridiculous horsepower... but their newest track monster, the Bolide, takes obsession to a whole other level even with the brakes.
They teamed up with Brembo to make these things, and get this – they claim the Bolide's brakes are on par with freakin' Formula 1 and Le Mans prototypes. Like, that's some serious stopping power.
Now picture this: at the front, you've got EIGHT pistons squeezing super thick pads onto these carbon-ceramic discs that are almost 16 inches across. Yeah, try wrapping your head around that. The rear's not much smaller either. The whole setup is designed for the kind of hard-core track abuse this car was built for.
And get this – even though they're HUGE, each brake disc only weighs about 7 pounds! That's wild, thanks to the carbon construction. Brembo's engineers basically channeled all their F1 knowledge into these things.
Bugatti wasn't messing around with cooling either. These brakes get their own special air channels to keep 'em from turning into glowing discs of molten lava.
Plus, the car's computer can even help out less-experienced drivers by making the brakes a bit less aggressive. How cool is that?
Bottom line, Bugatti's engineers deserve an award for this brake system. It's absolute overkill in the best possible way, and perfectly matches the insanity of the rest of the Bolide. Sadly, most of us will never get to feel these brakes in action, as Bugatti's only building 40 of these beasts.
