Audi Is Considering Buying A €650 Million Stake In McLaren
by AutoExpert | 5 April, 2022
Audi, which is part of the Volkswagen Group, is talking about buying a share in McLaren and has raised its first offer from €450 million to €650 million. The explanation for the increase was to accommodate McLaren's refusal of the German offer in 2021.
Audi will initially invest in the McLaren Racing Formula One team, which was backed by Google in March of this year. In the second step of the arrangement, direct investment in the automotive brand will be made. Audi's ambitions to acquire a share in McLaren alongside the Formula 1 team originally surfaced in November.
BMW is another prospective buyer of McLaren, having previously agreed to collaborate with McLaren on the development of an electric car architecture. However, reports indicate that the relationship is not contractual and that it may be canceled in the case of a deal with Audi.
