Are You Ready For The Vauxhall Vivaro-e Hydrogen Crazy Mile Range?
by AutoExpert | 19 May, 2021
The Vauxhall Vivaro van finally offers its customers a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) variant with a crazy 249 miles range featuring the same load capacity and is a model built especially for the left-hand-drive markets by German sister brand starting the Q4 of this year and a UK scheduled debut by 2023.
The Vivaro-e Hydrogen keeps under the hood a 45kW fuel cell with three 700bar hydrogen tanks 100% filled in just three minutes and the front-mounted 134bhp electric motor. The battery pack is a 10.5kW lithium-ion battery, featuring charging via regenerative braking, adding extra 31 miles.
According to Vauxhall managing director Paul Willcox, the automaker is set to add hydrogen to the line-up as an efficient energy system of the future. “Vauxhall-Opel has more than 20 years of experience in developing hydrogen fuel technology, which offers zero emissions in use, a long driving range, and ultra-fast refueling. We're already in contact with UK fleet operators that want to go the extra mile on sustainability, and we look forward to bringing Vivaro-e Hydrogen to the UK soon," said Wilcox.
The Vivaro-e Hydrogen variant will be no different from the previous Vivaro variants featuring the same body size. Also, the new Vivaro will be out of the production line placed in Vauxhall-Opel’s research-and-development Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany. This is the brands' first commercially available hydrogen powertrain made available that should start the futuristic e-Hydrogen vehicles and let’s hope that this one will have a post-production “life” and will even feature the previously introduced experimental Hydro Gen 4 system.
So, would you like to try one on the streets?
