by AutoExpert | 5 April, 2021
Mercedes is still moving on with its new concepts and recently filed for a European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) patent, mentioning an electric G-Class vehicle to confirm one more step towards the all-electric version. Five days ago the world started being closer to environmentally-friendly vehicles.
The branded names are 'EQG 580' and 'EQG 560', but no more information was confirmed about the future models and the names suggest the same powertrain configurations similar to the forthcoming EQS. There are rumors that the EQG 580 should feature electric motors for the front and rear wheels, providing an FWD system along with a torque shift function that distributes continuously distributes the power between the front and rear axles.
Based on the '580' powertrain of the EQS producing 516 horsepower and 828 Newton-meter should get a higher output. The G-Class ICE-powered in an all-electric variant could include three-locking differentials. There could also be a modified version for the G-Class' ladder-frame chassis or even better, shift to a much powerful EVA architecture.
The 'EQG 580' and 'EQG 560' models could be real competitors for the GMC Hummer EV SUV and more performant than the current ICE-powered G-Class series. No further details were revealed about the future G-Class all-electric vehicle.
