Zeekr Unveils Next-Generation Electric MPV To Rival Volkswagen's ID Buzz
by AutoExpert | 15 March, 2024
A stylish electric MPV competing with the Volkswagen ID Buzz is in the works from Chinese EV manufacturer Zeekr, and its release in the UK is likely to occur within the next two years. With its formal premiere set for next month's Beijing auto show, the car has been unveiled in the most recent batch of Chinese regulatory files.
According to Autocar's sources, the debut in the UK might be announced in 2026, although at this point it is too early to say.
After all, the Zeekr X electric crossover is set to make its UK debut in 2025. There are a number of European markets where the left-hand drive versions of the Smart #1 and Volvo EX30 are already available for purchase. The 001 shooting brake is available for purchase in Norway and other European countries through Zeekr, which has also announced plans to introduce the 007 saloon in Norway in 2024.
At least not at first, the 009 six-seat MPV is not expected to leave China. To compete with the ID Buzz, an MPV that started off with rear-wheel drive but eventually got four-wheel drive, the Mix was designed with that vehicle's lifespan in mind.
Geely created Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), which serves as the basis for the updated concept. This is the foundational component for several models across different brands, including the #1, EX30, and all current Zeekr models.
The Zeekr Mix measures in at 4688 mm in length, 1995 mm in width, and 1755 mm in height, which is 24 mm shorter and 58 mm broader than the ID Buzz. A wheelbase of 3008 mm gives it an advantage over the Volkswagen by 20 mm.
The Chinese government document goes on to say that it would buy a battery made by a joint venture between CATL and Geely. This battery, which is likely to be the same 86kWh pack as the 001 and has 800V hardware for 360kW charging, will be sent to China.
