Toyota GR Yaris H2 will make its spectacular debut at this weekend's Ypres Rally in Belgium, with four-time champion Juha Kankkunen behind the wheel. The vehicle was first displayed at Toyota's annual Kenshiki forum.
Toyota claims that hydrogen combustion technology makes zero-emission vehicles reasonably affordable. The GR Yaris H2 employs the same engine as the Corolla racecar, with only minor alterations. It also features the same refueling equipment as the production Mirai.
The only mechanical adjustments made were to strengthen the block, install new valve seats, and improve the injection system.
Although performance specifics are still unknown, powertrain chief Thiebauld Paquet predicts that the Toyota GR Yaris H2 will achieve equal efficiency to its gasoline sibling. The GR Yaris H2 mass production has not been confirmed by Toyota.
