This weird thing is called CarElio and it is sold for $6,800. Elio Motors is a company from Arizona that unveiled its P5 at Los Angeles Auto Show. Their solution for a cheap US-made car is simple: remove a wheel and equip a smaller engine.
The car is actually designated as a motorcycle, has room for 2 persons and is powered by a 0.9-liter engine that gets it to 60 mph in 9.6 seconds with a top speed of 100 mph, and the added bonus of fuel efficiency of 86 mpg.
The engine was developed with the help of IAV and the car was built in an old GM factory.
Elio's goal is to sway Americans towards cars made in the USA and bring back jobs.
