The Volkswagen Group is considering producing and selling its own tough SUV that does not use a traditional internal combustion engine.
At the introduction of the second-generation Amarok in South Africa, VW Commercial Vehicles CEO Carsten Intra discussed the possibility of a VW-branded electric SUV with a ladder-frame chassis with Autocar.
In response to a question concerning a body-on-frame electric SUV, Intra said that Volkswagen and Ford are looking at the T6 platform used in the Ranger and Amarok to determine whether it would be suitable for an EV application. "We're looking at it together with Ford. It's still on the agenda."
