Mitsubishi Triton Gets A Makeover: Best Mods To Debut At Tokyo Auto Salon 2025

Mitsubishi recently hosted an exciting truck modification contest in Japan, inviting local parts makers and tuning shops to customize the Triton pickup. Out of the 16 custom pickups, the winner will be showcased at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon.
The modified Tritons were first revealed at the “Let’s Go 4WD Fest 2024” on November 10. Among the entries, there were a few sporty builds that stood out. For example, the black Triton from Kuhl Japan and the white one from SPD Creation embraced a lowrider vibe, with slammed suspensions, big alloy wheels, and custom body kits that gave them a bold, aerodynamic look.
But it wasn’t all about sportiness. Both tuners also presented high-riding versions, keeping the Triton’s off-road credentials intact. In fact, most of the custom trucks focused on making the Triton even more capable for adventure, with beefed-up suspensions, tougher tires, underbody protection, and all sorts of off-road upgrades.
Some of the most rugged builds came from brands like JAOS, M-Climb, Colt Speed, and Brainstorm. Flags advanced the concept with two overlanding builds, incorporating additional storage for sports gear and enhancing the practicality of these trucks for off-the-grid adventures.
A popular theme among several tuners was turning the Triton into a truck-based camper. Flex Dreams converted the truck bed into a sleeping area, with a retractable roof for extra space. Meanwhile, MDF Equipment went for a roof tent with an integrated ladder and a big awning, giving the truck a rugged but practical look. Their build also featured a body kit from Thailand, mixing off-road toughness with sporty details.
Mitsubishi revealed that the winners of the Grand Prize and Excellence Prize would be chosen through online voting, which was open between November 11 and 24. Mitsubishi's brand ambassador, Mr. Hiromi, and local motor journalist Kei Takeoka would also present two special awards to standout entries.
