From Concept To Reality—Mugen’s Civic Type R Group B Kit Hits Production
by AutoExpert | 26 December, 2024
Mugen is set to turn heads at the Tokyo Auto Salon with its upgraded take on the FL5 Honda Civic Type R, pushing the already impressive hot hatch into even wilder territory.
Building off its Group A and Group B concepts revealed last year, Mugen’s latest pre-production version leans heavily into aggressive aero and race-inspired design. The Group B kit—more dramatic than its predecessor—looks nearly identical to the earlier concept, now ready for production.
The front end sees the most dramatic transformation. A carbon fiber hood with large air extraction vents and sharp vanes grabs immediate attention, paired with a massive carbon fiber splitter for added aggression.
Along the sides, Mugen fits vented front quarter panels, reminiscent of high-performance supercars, along with new wing mirror caps seemingly influenced by BMW’s M division. Silver wheels and air vents behind them complete the sharp new look.
At the rear, a giant fixed wing and a bold diffuser dominate the view, while Mugen ditches the Civic’s iconic three-tailpipe setup for a single, centered exhaust.
Mugen isn’t stopping with just the Type R. It’s also bringing upgrades for the Civic RS, including a revised splitter, side skirts, and those same mirror caps. Adding to the excitement, Mugen will showcase its Red Bull Motul SF23 race car from the All Japan Super Formula Championship—a nod to its motorsport roots.
