Volkswagen Gives You The Taos Basecamp Concept
by AutoExpert | 20 May, 2021
Volkswagen has a busy schedule this year. It’s all about new concepts that keep amazing us day by day. Now, they revealed the almighty Taos Basecamp concept – more like a rough one, but those who like these will be thrilled. This off-roader is on a mission – to promote the company’s latest crossover and preview an upcoming styling package.
Designed by the Volkswagen Design Team in Oxnard, California, the Taos Basecamp is presented with silver skid plates, extended fender flares, and rugged side skirts. Its matte black hood and roof, contrast with orange accents and the Thule Canyon XT roof basket which features LED auxiliary lights.
Volkswagen is offering the 2022 Taos to its North American customers for a price starting at $22,995 next month. Powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and delivering 158 horsepower and 249 Newton-meters of torque with an FWD system variants coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission, and an AWD system with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
To improve the crossover’s off-road prowess, designers equipped the vehicle with a lifted suspension from H&R Special Springs. For a harsh appearance, the off-roader rides on custom Fifteen52 wheels are wrapped in Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail tires. The interior is less improved because it’s aimed at comfort driving and would bring along only a custom cargo divider from the Polytec Group.
Typical for a pickup would be the rock climbing gear with carabiners. This is not a concept that would end up in production, but again there plenty of idea points that could use a Basecamp styling package. Volkswagen considered showing what would look like the aggressive fender flares, unique side skirts, and Basecamp badging all together.
