Toyota And Suzuki Unveil Their Electric SUV Partnership

Toyota has officially announced an exciting development: one of its upcoming electric vehicles will be a collaboration with Suzuki, marking a significant step forward in their partnership. Previously, Toyota allowed Suzuki to sell its own versions of models like the Corolla Touring Sports (known as the Swace) and the RAV4 (branded as the Across) in Europe.
In return, Suzuki has had several of its models rebadged as Toyotas in various regions.
Toyota is now preparing to launch a Suzuki-developed SUV globally for the first time, describing it as a "nimble" electric vehicle that will begin production in India starting next spring. This new SUV is likely a revamped version of the Suzuki eVX, which made its debut at last year’s Auto Expo in Delhi. Toyota's Urban SUV concept bears a strong resemblance to the eVX, as it shares similar proportions and the shape of its C-pillars.
Suzuki and Daihatsu have collaborated to craft the foundation for this new electric SUV. The design incorporates four-wheel drive capabilities, ensuring a smooth ride even on rough roads. “By leveraging the BEV unit and platform that we jointly developed, we will take a new step in our collaboration in the field of electrified vehicles,” said Toyota president Koji Sato.
Suzuki president Toshihiro Suzuki also expressed enthusiasm, stating, “Suzuki will supply our first BEV to Toyota globally. I’m grateful for the deepening collaboration between our two companies.” This partnership signals an exciting future for both brands in the growing electric vehicle market.
