The new generation of Mercedes C-Klasse, disclosed in mid-December and exposed in January at the Detroit Auto Show, is preparing to go on the streets of Europe. The new medium segment model relies on a series of technological innovations, as well as larger.
They provide more interior space, but do not increase the total mass. According to the official press release issued by Mercedes, the new C-Class is around 100 kilograms lighter than its predecessor. An impressive amount which positively influences the consumption and emission performances.
Few know that the total weight reduction was obtained with some sacrifices. Among them is that Mercedes decided to reduce the fixed volume of the tank with 18 liters of the new generation, it goes to sum of only 41 liters.
The capacity reduction has helped the German company to get rid of 12 kg and a way to secure favorable calculation for the total weight. Officially, the total mass of a vehicle is calculated with a tank filled 90% and a driver of 75 kg.
Taking into consideration that the C-Klasse tank was reduced, Mercedes had to take into account the weight of just 36.9 liters and not 53.1 liters, as had been the case for the old version.
Although the total mass did not decrease significantly, Mercedes thought that this could help more. Even so, although the standard provides only 41 liters, the European customers can order an optional bigger tank for a fee of 60 euros, 66 liters.
