Unveiling the Future of Public Transportation with Autonomous Electric Ferries

Even ferry transport might be self-driving and electric in the future. Vaiaro is an autonomous electric ferry idea developed by CAPTN (Clean Autonomous Public Transport Network), a German undertaking. The ferry, which was designed in collaboration with Kiel University, would pass across the bay that divides Kiel.
The design prototype provides a tantalizing glimpse into the future of public transit. The Vaiaro boat will use an electric propulsion system, according to CAPTN, allowing for silent, emission-free transportation. It will be self-piloted as well.
The ferry would be able to move constantly thanks to autonomous cruising, allowing Kiel people to cross the bay at whatever time. Especially interesting are the two designs for the ferry concept. One depicts a rectangular glass-enclosed vessel with a central dorsal fin.
Another one resembles a ferry station, complete with a spectacular latticework exterior, which separates from the dock and goes across the bay to the next landing point. Both concepts have space for bicycles. It's possible, according to CAPTN, that the concepts could spur more people to come to the city.
