Chevrolet Spark EV, the all-electric version of the Chevy Spark city car, will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show. The model will be sold on certain European markets since 2014, its price being yet unrevealed. Its engine develops 130 hp and 540 Nm of torque, while its battery can be fast-charged to 80% of capacity in just 20 minutes by means of some special combo charging stations. The Spark EV is expected to be surprisingly fast due to its high level of torque and the 130-hp engine, able to sprint from 0-100 km/h in less than 8.5 seconds.
The Spark EV's lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 20 kWh and incorporates an active liquid cooling and heating system. Thanks to this technology, the Spark EV is expected to offer the best-in-class range, says General Motors. The battery pack has been engineered to enable both AC and DC charging. The fast-charging solution uses the direct current and the battery can withstand several fast charges during the day. The alternate current charging of a completely discharged battery takes between 6 and 8 hours using a 230V outlet.
