The 2024 Wagoneer L Is A Patrol-Ready SUV Built For Law Enforcement
by AutoExpert | 12 September, 2024
Some law enforcement and government fleets in the U.S. are about to get a serious upgrade with the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer L models, now outfitted with a special package designed specifically for these long-wheelbase SUVs. These Wagoneers, equipped with advanced technology, serve as specialized patrol vehicles.
These law enforcement-ready Wagoneer Ls come equipped with flashing red and blue lights strategically placed behind the grille, at the top of the windshield, and in the rear quarter windows. Jeep has also added a siren and speaker system, a rear gun vault for secure firearm storage, a power distribution center, and all the wiring needed to keep those lights and sirens running smoothly.
That said, don’t expect these SUVs to be chasing down undesirable guys in high-speed pursuits. Similar to other Special Service Vehicles (SSV) such as the Ford F-150 SSV, Expedition SSV, and Ram 1500 SSV, the Wagoneer L prioritizes patrolling and maintaining a strong, reliable presence. Think of it as the law enforcement version of a well-dressed security guard—commanding and capable, but not designed to race.
Under the hood, the law enforcement version of the Wagoneer L sticks with the standard powertrain. A twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine powers it, producing a powerful 420 hp and 468 lb-ft of torque, which it couples with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It’s available in both rear-wheel-drive (4x2) and four-wheel-drive (4x4) configurations, meaning it’s got plenty of strength, just not the need for speed.
Of course, all the expected safety features are part of the package. Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Path Detection, and Active Lane Management are standard. There’s also a 360-degree Surround-View Camera System, a head-up display, and front and rear park assist to make patrol duties a bit easier and safer.
Jeep’s parent company, Stellantis, has a history of supplying law enforcement with vehicles built for duty, with the Charger and Durango being common sights in precincts across the country. Now, the Wagoneer L is stepping up to serve as another reliable option for law enforcement, delivering both muscle and functionality for patrols and special operations.
